Mikado 5.2 Arrived...

Friday, August 26, 2011

Version 5.2 Release-  Now Available

Mikado 5.2 Firmware and PC Software to our customers. Since it is a minor enhancement, the update is free for all 5.x users.

The 5.2 will be available as online update for the express owners too, which will still have the same functionality as express before, but with the new 5.2 enhancements at the algorithms.

Whats new:

The "pro" version of the mini will now have a governor too, same as the fullsize one. Due to limited ports at the mini unit the governor can only be used in combination with a Spektrum, a s-Bus or M-Link or a classic single line reciver. An external reciver with governor is not possible.
The Governor has been massively rewoked, mainly to better support electric governing. This gives a completely new option with most simple electric speedcontrollers. So even a simple controller turns into a high quality governor.

Setting up an electric governor has been greatly simplified. The default settings will match most usual installations, so there is no extensive tuning process needed.
The Integration between the governor an the rest of the algorithms has been improoved, so the complete control loop works smoother and quicker.

New security functions avoid unintended hot starts of the motor, which can turn into dangerous with electrics. This adds top level protection to simple ESC´s as well.
The piruette compensation has been improved. Complex moves will be smoother and more precise now.
Both versions will be available in parallel, so you can choose between 5.1 and 5.2 at any time.

The Update prcoess will be performed by a new pc software with the known method. The location of the software will be announced at the 1th. The settings will be taken over, so no new programming needed, just as you know from former updates.

Castle Recall Advisory

Saturday, August 20, 2011

ICE HV, Mamba XL & Hydra Ice HV
Warning & Recall advisory 2011-03
Aug 20, 2011

The performance of a component used in the Castle ICE HV 60, ICE HV 80, ICE HV 120, ICE HV 160,  Mamba XL and HYDRA ICE HV controllers has changed from the original specifications for that part. This tolerance change may lead to failure of the affected controllers.
For your safety, we request that all customers cease operation of these controllers immediately.  Send all of these controllers back to Castle for modifications required to improve the safety and reliability of these products. This recall includes all controllers labeled as V3. There are no charges associated with this modification.
The only controllers that are properly modified and are approved for operation will be labeled clearly as ICE HV (Amp Rating) 2, Mamba XL 2 & HYDRA ICE HV 2.
We understand that you may not wish to return your controller. Those that have served you well are likely to continue doing so; however, controllers that you may have recently purchased should be assumed to be assembled with the problem components.
If you insist on using these controllers, please be advised that the risks of continued usagebegin with severe burns to you and/or others, as well as property damage to your RC vehicle or surroundings. Please wear fire-proof gloves when connecting any HV controllers that use 8 or 10 gauge wire to their power source.

FAQs
1. It may not be possible to economically repair some controllers.  Those controllers will be replaced by refurbished controllers that were made from unsold controllers that have been recalled from the sales channels.
2. We will replace the control board in as many returned units as possible.  We will make sure that you receive your exact controller.  This will likely cause the process to take a bit longer, but it will ensure that you are comfortable with the prior use of the controller that you receive from us.
3. As we cannot state in advance the criteria for reparability vs. replacement, please remove all connectors from your controllers before sending them in to us.
4. Due to the manner in which most of the ICE HV controllers and their heat sinks are assembled, we do not recommend that users ask to install the replacement board themselves.
5. We cannot give you an exact estimate of the time required to return your controllers.  We will keep you updated as to the status of our repairs via email. We understand that you may be frustrated by this experience, and we will be happy to talk with you individually, but our Tech Support staff do not have any more information to offer you beyond the statements made in this announcement.

KDE XF Brushless Motors

Tuesday, August 9, 2011

Introducing the new KDE XF Brushless series of motors...
Raw power never looked so good.

The XF series have quad ball bearings which makes for a more robust, smoother operating, longer-lasting motor.

Each motor comes with bullet connectors attached to the wires and include bullet connectors for the ESC inside the box.

The XF motors all come pre-drilled for both 25mm M3 spacing and 30mm M4 spacing.

One side of the motor shaft on the XF series is grounded flat, so there is no need to break out the dremel tool for this matter.

The 700XF comes with the upgraded motor mount.
